Chronological List of Carillons in the United States

| Documentary History of American Carillons | History of American Bell Foundries | Import Tariffs on Bells and Carillons |

This list shows all traditional carillons built in the United States along with a few other notable instruments.

A carillon is a musical instrument consisting of at least two octaves of carillon bells arranged in chromatic series and played from a keyboard permitting control of expression through variation of touch. A carillon bell is a cast bronze cup-shaped bell whose partial tones are in such harmonious relationship to each other as to permit many such bells to be sounded together in varied chords with harmonious and concordant effect.
from the Articles of Incorporation of The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America

Those without a number in the first column are considered non-traditional, either for being non-chromatic or not provided with a manual keyboard/clavier.  Some carillons listed here had their keyboards removed and replaced with electric playing apparatus, which is noted on the carillon inventory links for each site.  A few were originally built as chimes with fewer than 23 bells, the date shown is when the 23d bell was added.  Instruments that originally had electric mechanisms that were later converted to traditional manual claviers are listed by the date originally built.

The page for each carillon includes links to carillon inventories at Towerbells.org, Bok Tower Archives, and the GCNA directory, which was recently taken down, but is available on the the wayback machine.  The 2014 GCNA directory is also available.

This date shown is the first public performance or dedication of the carillon.
