Trinity junior John Landon Plumb died in October 1924 following an operation for appendicitis.  His parents, the Rev. and Mrs. John Fields Plumb, gave a carillon to the college in his memory.  The 30 bells were cast by the John Taylor Bell Foundry in Loughborough, England, and first played on December 9, 1931 by Kamiel Lefevre.

The carillon was enlarged in 1978 to 49 bells and rededicated on April 29, 1979 by R. Hudson Ladd.

The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA) was first formed at Trinity in 1934 by College President Remsen B. Ogilby, who invited carillonneurs from the United States and Canada to attend a meeting to discuss their shared concerns.
