The Principia College chapel tower held a Deagan tubular chime from 1936 to 1959 (or 1969?), when it was replaced with an electronic instrument.

Principia graduate Charles V. Rainwater III donated a 39-bell Meeks, Watson carillon to honor his wife, Jean L. Rainwater.  .The carillon bells were dedicated on May 1, 1998 before they were installed.

The carillon was first played during Alumni Week on July 15, 1998 by Carlo van Ulft.

The bells were replaced the following year with bells cast by Eijsbouts.
