William James Rushton.donated a 49-bell Eijsbouts carillon that was installed in the A. Hamilton Reid Chapel and dedicated on May 5, 1968. The dedication recital was given by Richard M. Watson, who was appointed the first carillonneur-in-residence for Samford University. Rushton's father donated a carillon to the First Presbyterian Church in 1924 in memory of his father, William James Rushton..
In 1979 the carillon was moved to the Harwell Goodwin David Library and eleven Eijsbouts were added. The carillon was re-dedicated on May 23, 1980 by Frank P. Law.
